Appalachian-Railroads.org Editor – Sandhi Kozsuch
A native of Johnson City Tennessee, I’m Sandhi (Sandy) Kozsuch the Editor, Webmaster, Research Assistant, and Photographer of Appalachian-Railroads.org.
Don’t let the spelling of my name throw you, I’m a Tennessee boy still sporting remnants of a southern accent. Other career and train stops throughout my life include Richmond, Charlotte, Princeton NJ/New York City, and now the Atlanta area…..all excellent railroad destinations.
2nd Career
After an almost a 50-year career in television and the internet, it was time to enjoy my life-long interests and hobbies as a second career. In my youth, I spent countless hours watching the Clinchfield, the ET&WNC, and the Southern Railway trains parading through my hometown. Now, I can relive and share those great memories and railroads through this website.
Appalachian Railroads and the 3Cs
Much has been written about the well-known Appalachian Railroads such as the B&O, C&O, Clinchfield, L&N, N&W, and Southern. Individually they are well documented. But collectively, their exemplary design, leadership and financial success are not always truly appreciated, especially online.
Additionally, there is little written or highlighted about the Charleston Cincinnati & Chicago Railroad, the 3Cs. It was the predecessor of the Clinchfield Railroad by 25 years. This website is my perfect opportunity to bring the 3Cs to life and to also chronicle the legacies of the Appalachian Railroads online.
Website Goals
My goals for this endeavor are simple:
- Preserve and further explore the stories and the history of the Appalachian Railroads
- Share the new information and stories I find, and link you to the information that exists
- Create online guides for the railroads as they exist today
- Honor and highlight the individuals and organizations who have these same goals. and those who have already given so much of their time in decades past.
The content of this website will be donated to the archives of the region and the railroad historical associations. This website is a non-commercial blog
Appalachian-Railroads.org – A Work in Progress
I’m hoping to have the website in good shape initially by 2025. However, I know true completion is years away. This website is non-commercial and is meant to be used for educational and entertainment purposes. Even though we try to have multiple sources for each page on this site, we cannot guarantee total accuracy.
Please come back and visit Rails Across the Appalachians in the years ahead. Don’t hesitate to contact me using the form below if you have similar interests in these railroads or in model railroading.
Thanks for stopping by.
