Thomas E. Matson

Colonel Thomas E. Matson was Chief Engineer for the East Tennessee & Western North Carolina Railroad in the early 1880s and for the Charleston Cincinnati & Chicago Railroad in the late 1880s. He was ET&WNC’s Superintendent and Chief Engineer for five years. After the CC&C, Matson was mayor of Johnson City from 1892-1896. He was also the Founder and first President of the Johnson City Foundry.

He is known for designing the Elizabethton covered bridge for the ET&WNC.
